These drinking holidays are plentiful (and seemingly arbitrary), but we’re not one to turn down a good old fashioned celebration. Here are some of our favorite bartender-approved tequila cocktail recipes from renowned bars across the globe.
Lazy Boy – The Odd Couple, Shanghai
Employees Only vet Steve Schneider puts a light, savory spin on an EO classic in his Lazy Boy recipe, combining Tequila with tomato water, fresh citrus, and a homemade jalapeño-infused Green Chartreuse.
1.5 oz blanco Tequila
1 oz tomato water
.75 oz fresh lime juice
.5 oz jalapeño-infused Green Chartreuse*
.25 oz agave nectar
1 cherry tomato
1 cucumber slice or strip dusted with salt
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with cucumber and cherry tomato.
*Jalapeño-Infused Green Chartreuse
Remove 8 oz of Green Chartreuse from its original full bottle. In a pan, place the 8oz in a pan on very low heat it with 3 sliced jalapeños. Let cool and strain back into the original bottle.
Shady Lady – 1833 Kitchen & Bar, Aurora, NY
Peaceful, placid Aurora in New York’s Finger Lakes region is home to one of the greatest bars in the area: 1833 Kitchen & Bar. This simple Tequila drink is quite an approachable one for the home bartender, using just three other ingredients: cranberry juice, fresh lime, and Calvados, a northern French brandy typically made from apples.
1.5oz blanco Tequila
1oz Coquerel Calvados
.75oz cranberry juice
.5oz fresh lime
Shake all ingredients together with ice and strain over fresh ice into a rocks glass. Garnish with lime peel.
Tequila Partida’s Pomelo Punch
Erik Delanoy, veteran bartender and New York Portfolio Brand Ambassador for Edrington Americas, created this perfect Tequila punch for Arte Agave, an agave spirits gathering held annually in Manhattan. Recreate it at home with these simple, fresh ingredients.
1.5oz Tequila Partida Blanco
1oz fresh orange juice
.75oz fresh lemon juice
.5oz simple syrup (1:1 sugar:water)
5-8 mint leaves
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake for 10-20 seconds or until well-chilled. Fine-strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass, then garnish with a mint sprig and orange wheel.
1.5 oz añejo Tequila
3/4 oz Cointreau
1.5 oz blood orange purée
1oz fresh lime juice
Splash of blue agave nectar
Garnish: blood orange slice
Shake all ingredients together with ice until well-chilled, then transfer to a rocks glass. Top with a pinch of salt and a blood orange slice.
